WHO WE ARE
The printing world is never at a stand still. It keeps evolving, developing, and growing. And with it, printing technology. As an off-shoot of this, competition among printing companies has grown stiff and has become a neck-and-neck race. Each printer tries to outdo the other— introducing innovations and upgrading its services.
Hiyas Press, Inc. is one printer that keeps up with the times. It has stayed on and survived, beating the odds against it, that is, the country's economic turmoils as well as the printing industry's continuing struggles.
Hiyas Press, Inc. is a family-owned and –managed printing enterprise. Its roots stretch back to 1936 when it was founded by Luis R. Abiva, Sr., who, with the help of his wife Asuncion, started with only one machine in an inconspicuous corner of Quiapo, Manila. Then known as Abiva Press, the business thrived and did well. However, when Luis R. Abiva, Sr. died in 1942, Mrs. Asuncion Q. Abiva decided to sell the printing machinery and then ventured into textbook publishing. Thus, the birth of Abiva Publishing House, Inc. (APHI)—one of the pioneers in book publishing that has also successfully weathered the storms that had beset the field of publishing. Today, APHI stands as one of the leaders in educational publishing.
Abiva Press was reopened as Hiyas Press, Inc. (HPI) on 13 April 1969, when the youngest in the Abiva brood, Luis Q. Abiva, Jr., decided to reestablish the printing press. The renaming of Abiva Press into Hiyas Press was inspired by one of APHI's best-selling book series—Hiyas, meaning "a gem" or "a jewel."
Louie Gerard Abiva a third generation family member has taken over the management. He has instituted great changes, maintaining its high standard of printing quality and service to its clientele. It continues to keep up with the latest technology in all phases of printing: imagesetting, digital imposition, CtP, printing, binding, and folding among others. It has competent personnel who can efficiently handle even the most.
